This is a painting of Taimur from Zafarnama written by Taimur's own court poet Sharaf ad-Dīn Alī Yazdī. The painting must have been copied from the original book. The current copy dates back to c. 1520 CE.

This painting is very revealing. There is a huge pyramid of skulls behind Taimur. Dead bodies can be seen lying all around. While his lieutenants bring severed heads of people, Taimur exclaims with glee.

Taimur liked killing people. He felt a lot of joy in seeing people dead. He admitted as much in his own autobiography. He made a huge pyramid of skulls in Delhi in during his invasion of 1398. His soldiers killed everybody they saw and placed every severed head at Timur's feet. Only the quarter of Syeds ( believed to be descendants of the Islamic prophet) was spared.

It is not without reason that history buff Saif Ali Khan named his son Taimur.
