Obviously, the surface finish of the moulded article cannot be superior to the surface finish of the moulded article. If a good surface finish is provided first, it may be damaged by misuse or accident.
Hard tools can cause damage such as difficulty in removing mechanical damage that is difficult to mould, or damage caused by rust or by spraying antifreeze materials, as sometimes used in mould coolers. After prolonged use, they sometimes become slightly acidic and etch any metal surface that comes into contact with them.
It appears that this treatment allows each filler particle to be coated with a plastic film which prevents any roughness that may occur when the filler reaches the surface of the moulding. As a... less
