Analyze the impact of compressed natural gas on vehicle life

The surface temperature of the engine piston top, combustion chamber wall and cylinder wall is 200-300°C, and the flame propagation speed is about 20-30m/s. One of the reasons for maintaining this temperature is that these walls form a gas-surface layer, which prevents excessive heat transfer to these walls. Due to the low octane number of gasoline, knocking often occurs. The local temperature of knocking combustion is very high, up to 4000℃. The combustion products will decompose carbon monoxide, hydrogen, oxygen, nitric oxide and free carbon, which can no longer burn and exhaust. Smoke, excessive exhaust temperature will cause heat loss, high heat conduction, high temperature, increase of cooling water temperature, overheating of the engine, deterioration of lubrication of moving parts, and accelerated parts wear.

In normal combustion and mild knocking, the abrasion rate is 3.6mg/h, and in severe knocking, it is 98mg/h, which is about 27 times the abrasion rate in normal combustion, which has severe abrasion on all parts of the engine. The octane number of compressed natural gas is greater than 120, which is higher than that of gasoline. Even high-grade gasoline has an octane number of only 97.

Before the compressed natural gas enters the air mixer, it is evenly mixed with air and distributed to each cylinder. The mixture is uniform and the combustion is sufficient, which can improve the thermal efficiency, accelerate the combustion speed, and make full use of the combustion heat. Compressed natural gas vehicles run smoothly, the engine has no knocking phenomenon, the parts wear is small, the maintenance period is long, and the lubricating oil consumption is small. This prolongs the service life of the engine.
